Joy Jorgensen: life is a barrel roll
Duration: 30 minutes
Released: 20 November, 2018
How adventurous is your grandmother? Joy Jorgensen soared to great heights as an aerobatic pilot, flying into her 80s. That made her one of the oldest aerobatic pilots in the world.
As a little girl, Joy was fascinated with planes. But she only learnt aerobatics when she was 60-years-old, long after she’d had children.
I had the pleasure, if we can call it that, of joining the flight instructor for a thrilling upside-down adventure over the Indian Ocean, after taking off from Perth’s Jandakot Airport.
Little did I know, soon after, Joy decided to give up flying to care for her terminally ill husband, Wal. But she’s going to extraordinary lengths to keep her sky-high dream alive.
How do you juggle family, career and life’s surprises? Let’s have a good chat with Joy Jorgensen, a woman to inspire my daughter.
